A Special Tribute to our Good Friend

Katie Latreille of Winaways Shelties in Ontario Canada.

Katie was one of those people that lived life to the fullest.

She believed in truth and honesty.

She would tell it like it is - even if she told you off doing it!

She'd question you endlessly on choices you made for breeding and for acquiring a dog. As a mentor she wanted to ensure you were making the right choices for you (not for others and not for her either). She never pushed you to use her dogs, but, tried to ensure you used the best stud/bitch for your own breeding program.

These pictures are from the last trip we all took together (Judy Best, myself and Katie) to Virginia Beach Nationals 2006. There we spent time with Luella Thomsen and Roslyn her sister, plus had fun ourselves walking around and critiquing the dogs.

Katie made no bones about her dogs or those of others.

If you asked her opinion you got it in spades.

This summer of 2007 we had planned a few shows and trips with Katie. We were all looking forward to it. All three of us had been talking on the phone in the past two weeks.

Unfortunately, the powers that be decided to take Katie from us far too soon and without warning. My last memories of Katie are her visiting here at Islewind, just 5 short weeks ago (May 2007) with her husband and spending 2 hours just talking dogs. She dropped off Leah and Champagne Rose too.

She is and will always be missed by myself and Judy Best of Ibok. We've lost a friend, a mentor and a fellow conspirator.

Passed to the Bridge July 2, 2007

We know her family are also devastated at her loss and our hearts go out to them.
